Parris and Kirby hit trebles as City and Chelsea win
Man City extend lead at top of FA WSL while Chelsea close gap on second-placed Arsenal
Manchester City ran out 4-3 winners over Reading in a pulsating match at Adams Park to extend their lead at the top of the FA Women’s Super League table to five points.
A first-half hat-trick from Nikita Parris saw them come from behind after Brooke Chaplen gave the Royals the lead.
Demi Stokes looked to have wrapped up the victory but Fara Williams pulled one back from the spot and captain Kirsty Pearce set up a nervous finish – but Nick Cushing’s side held on.
Meanwhile, a superb hat-trick from England international Fran Kirby helped Chelsea pick up three vital points with a 3-0 win over Liverpool at Prenton Park.
The Blues picked up back-to-back wins thanks to the outstanding Kirby as Emma Hayes’s side moved a point behind second-placed Arsenal.
Substitute Hannah Cain was the match-winner as her goal two minutes from time earned Everton a precious three points against West Ham at Rush Green Stadium.
The result moves the Toffees on to nine points, five ahead of relegation-threatened Yeovil, while West Ham stay midtable.
And Ellie Mason’s second-half strike earned Yeovil a 1-1 draw against Brighton after Victoria Williams had opened the scoring in a closely-fought encounter.
The result ends Yeovil’s losing run and is their first draw of the season as they progress to four points, while Brighton lie ninth with 13 points.
