Liverpool 0-4 Arsenal

ENGLAND striker Ellen White and winger Danielle Carter shone as WSL champions Arsenal moved smoothly into the semi-finals of the FA WSL Continental Cup.

Goals from substitutes Ciara Grant and Jennifer Beattie allied to a White strike completed the rout for the lady Gunners in a game they had well under control from the start.

Eight minutes into the game White played the ball out from midfield to the right and ran to get on the end of right back Stephanie Houghton's cross. White's header flashed just past the far post.

Ciara Grant had come on in the same minute, the eighth, for Faye White. A minute later Grant had the ball in the back of the Liverpool net with a powerful header from a corner.

White flashed another shot just wide and Arsenal midfielder Katie Chapman had another effort saved by Liverpool keeper Danielle Gibbons.

The big talking point at the break though was whether a fumbled shot from Katie Brusell had bounced behind Arsenal goalkeeper Rebecca Spencer and crossed the line. Most spectators near the incident, including Arsenal fans, said the ball had gone in.

White scored the goal of the game nine minutes into the second half when she raced away down the right onto a Jordan Nobbs' pass and finished in style with a brilliant shot into the far corner of the goal.

White lofted another effort into the side netting before substitute Jennifer Beattie tapped in from Danielle Carter's fine run and slide rule pass from the left hand side of the penalty area.

Beattie added her second two minutes from the end and Carter headed against the near post from a Little corner as Arsenal finished strongly.
