Christiansen hoping for déjà vu in Conti Tyres Cup Final

Isobel Christiansen looks back on 2014 Cup Final win over next week's opponents, Arsenal

Isobel Christiansen scored the winner as Manchester City defeated Arsenal to win the FA WSL Continental Tyres Cup in 2014.

The two sides will meet again in The Final next week, but will it be a case of déjà vu?

We caught up with Izzy to get her thoughts ahead of next week’s showpiece in Wycombe…

Firstly, Izzy, how happy are you with the season so far?

“I’m really happy with how we’ve done. I wouldn’t change anything because win, lose or draw we can look at everything as a learning curve.

“We put together a long unbeaten run at the start of the season, then we had a really tough night against Birmingham, who played really well. We weren’t at our best and they deservedly beat us. We were probably a little bit weary in the next game against Chelsea, a game where we did well to come back from 2-0 down to draw.

“But now it’s about refocusing and bouncing back.

How fondly do you look back on the Cup success in 2014?

“2014 was a massively special year and I’ve got very, very good memories of that Final.

“Arsenal threw everything at us and we rode our luck at times. But we believed, we worked together as a team and luckily I managed to pop up with the winner in the second half.

“It’s like déjà vu; we’re playing the same team in the same Final at the same stadium. Fingers crossed it’s the same outcome!”

How special is this competition to the players at City?

“This was our first trophy as a team and obviously as a club. We were building for the future and that win in 2014 was stage one. We were finding our feet as a team back then.

“We have obviously won the competition again since then [in 2016] and we want to hold onto the trophy because it means a lot to us.”

Tickets are on sale now, priced at £7 for adults and £3 for concessions, and are available via

The Final will be broadcast live on The FA’s WSL Facebook page.
