CHELSEA SIGN GOALKEEPER HOURIHAN

Chelsea Ladies today confirmed signing Birmingham goalkeeper Marie Hourihan

Chelsea Ladies have today completed the signing of goalkeeper Marie Hourihan from fellow FA WSL side Birmingham City.

The 26 year old had been the number one for the Midlands side since the introduction of the FA WSL back in 2011, but has now made the move down the M40.

The ex-England Under 23 international previously played for Doncaster Rovers Belles, Watford and Fulham.

Assistant manager Paul Green said, 'Marie is a great signing for the club. I've worked with her in the past at Doncaster and know her well. She has a great attitude and brings a wealth of experience to the group.

Chelsea Ladies make the signing just 10 days out from their returning game of the FA Women’s Super League season, where they will play hosts to Doncaster Rovers Belles at Staines Town FC on Sunday 4th August.

Currently sitting in 4th on the league table Chelsea Ladies know they need to get off to a winning start in order to stay in contact with teams above who all have games in hand over The Blues.

Green went on to say, 'Marie is a good keeper who knows the league and will provide great competition between the goalkeeper's at the club.'

The second half of the FA WSL kicks off with Liverpool Ladies vs Arsenal Ladies on 3rd August at Halton Stadium, which is also Live on BT Sport.
